MUJER PSAs encourage Latina youth to take a stand and face issues

MUJER, a non-profit organization that promotes the integral development of Latin American Women, hopes to confront and verbalize issues that affect Latina youth. Body image, healthy relationships, abuse, sexual orientation and sexuality are concerns for these youth and it is essential that they have outlets and encouragement to deal with these issues. The launch of the “Your Voice Counts!” campaign is aimed to empower Latina youth to de-mystify these issues and to create a larger network of support.

MUJER has produced a set of public service announcements (PSAs) to promote the initiative, which is funded by The Status of Women Canada. The PSAs feature Latina youth from the community talking about these issues and letting their peers know that “You’re not alone. You are important. Your voice counts!” The PSAs can be found on the MUJER ( website as well as partner agencies and their Youtube channel (

Healthy Relationships

Lack of communication, trust, racialized beauty standards, isolation and desperation are often factors leading these youth to early pregnancy, single motherhood and poverty. Some young women run away from their families because of emotional and physical abuse, violence and face high risks of living on the streets. MUJER wants these girls to know that they have a voice and that they can feel secure and safe while facing these issues.
